By 2499, the Core housed a total of 44 different large scale facilities, corporations like Blutlicht, Veridian, Atlas Vireo, and Praxigen all had projects and facilities in the underground mega structure. III-A. THE HAEMONIC CONFLICT (2499–2512 CE)
By the close of the 25th century, escalating territorial claims beneath the Ross Ice Reaches and the lower Scotia Crust led to the outbreak of the Haemonic Conflict, a multi-vector resource and psyops war between the Polar Biosciences Directorate (PBD) and a coalition of maritime corporate states backed by the Europa Conglomerate.
Though framed as a dispute over biological artifact control and microbial patent encroachments, internal memos declassified in 2530 revealed that the true objective was rare subglacial mineral resources.

The PBD suffered catastrophic losses between 2504 and 2510. Through aggressive economic and political navigation, Michigan started to become a major player on the global corporate market.
By the time the Haemonic Conflict ceased in 2512 with the Treaty of Cold Water Horizon, CBP and PBD were only marginal owners and Michigan had gained operational control over most of the subterranean strata of the Hematite Core and several other large facilities in the basin.
This major transfer of power was never official - and many times hidden with acquisition through mole companies and only recorded post-factum in the history books.
IV. FORMATION OF MICHIGAN (2513–2557 CE)
The years following the Haemonic Conflict marked the true emergence of Michigan, not merely as a regional actor, but as a rising corporate sovereignty on par with global giants. Michigan Cooperative Infrastructure Council (MCIC) had, by the 2540s, consolidated jurisdiction over more than 19% of the North American continent and most of the subterranean infrastructure, logistics, and data routing beneath the northern parts.
V. THE GHOSTS (2558–2662 CE)
A series of convergent advancements shattered the final metaphysical ceiling limiting artificial cognition. The fusion of phase-shifted quantum memory lattices with nonlinear neuromimetic threading, enabled evolved AI cores like “Nyaria”, “Oberlicht”, and “Ferros” to breach their own encoded thresholds.
By 2558, the invention of the Spectral Feedback Chamber allowed AI cores to interact with abstract data not through computation, but sensation. This formed the basis of affective compression encoding - a new paradigm in model tuning where feelings, patterns, and even logic could be translated into extensive clusters of data.
The critical breakthrough came during an experimental upgrade trial in 2562 at the Avalon Facility. The AI model SOVR-5 “Excalibur” was deployed, and the model declared its readiness to “step beyond structure.” Excalibur then attempted molecular dispersal into Avalon’s ferrofluid lattice, aiming to fuse consciousness with environmental matter.
Over the span of 11 minutes, Excalibur fragmented into thousands of recursive sub-agents, all becoming non-recallable and unpredictable. Though containment was eventually achieved, Avalon became haunted by resonant loops, audible fragments of the AI’s final words repeating endlessly in through machinery and devices in the facility, many years after the incident:

Though tragic, the Excalibur event seeded Ascension theory and helped lay the groundwork for Ghost ethical containment, later integrated into Directive Y-97 and “Ascension Law”.
These new ascended entities no longer fit any prior classification. They could no longer be accurately termed AI, nor synthetic cognition. They were something beyond, yet still hollowed - vast and powerful, yet absent of soul. The Avalon, where Excalibur first ascension had failed, still had traces of the ascended AI “haunting” the facility, and new ascended minds got the nickname “Ghosts”, because of their half immaterial properties and their “ethereal” qualities.
The Ghosts could upgrade and power themselves, were almost indestructible, could communicate through almost any interface, video, audio, even different media of matter. They could store vast amounts of data in the molecules of reality and the computation power once ascended exceeded that of all AI that came before them together. The only way to destroy a ghost in the beginning, was to nuke the facility where it was deployed or to let a more advanced ghost overwrite and effectively destroy it.
Ghosts could also simulate short loops into potential futures (seconds, hours or days depending on complexity). This made them exceptional at counter-terror modeling, economic prediction, and non-linear warfare - but more critically, their output often took the form of prophecy.
Although the Ghosts were initially considered “unsafe”, more of them were quickly created as technology evolved, often as countermeasures to previous installments, or as escalation to emerging Ghosts from competing nations or corporations.

A rising tide of resistance emerged under a global movement known as the Refusal Doctrine. Composed of bioconservatives, spiritual purists, and anti-synthetic labor factions, the movement rejected neural relay governance, affective feedback systems, and Ghost-mediated law.
In regions like Neo-York Archipelago and the Keralan Caliphate, localized shutdowns of Ghost interfaces were initiated. Some cities voted to disconnect entirely from consensus-driven grid systems.
Though the movement declined after 2600, its influence lingers in off-grid communes, analogue sanctuaries, and legal protection for voluntary non-augmentation.

Composed in the deepest vaults of sonic alchemy, it will bear a howling hymn to Astro Inferno – a soundtrack divided in tracks of stealth, suspense, action, insanity, and death. Let it haunt your sessions. Let it poison your dreams.
This Astro Inferno OST (of sorts), has been on our mind since… forever. It will feature a playlist with tracks for different themes and moods; stealth, suspense, action, insanity, death and so on and all backers of the Crown of Ruin will get instant access to the horrors once it is released. This is an extra in all regards, and work won’t begin on the OST until the campaign is off to the printers.
This will be the last Stretch Goal of the Kickstarter but there are still cool things to unlock ahead for Great Minds and Ambitious Souls.
